Every day, PBISApps users let us know about the features they want to see in all our applications. At the top of that list are all the ways we can support Spanish speakers in their schools. We’re happy to announce two new features to do just that.

English Learner Added as a New Student Demographic in SWIS

The SWIS Suite offers many ways for students to identify what makes them unique. Demographic data include: gender, race, ethnicity, 504 status, and whether they have an individualized education plan.

Today, we’ve added English Learner as a brand new piece of student demographic information in SWIS.

To start collecting this piece of information, log in to SWIS and head to School Settings. Under the General tab, you’ll see a new setting called Use English Learner. Click anywhere in the row, select Yes from the drop-down menu and click Save. That’s it! Any new or existing student on your student list can now identify as an English learner.

School Climate Surveys Now Available in Spanish on PBIS Assessment

Surveys on PBIS Assessment have always been available in English. What about other languages? According to the most recent statistics, there are 3.79 million students who identify Spanish as their home language in the United States. When we added the School Climate Surveys administered to students, staff, and families, we knew we had to find a way to expand the translations we offer.

We’re excited to announce every School Climate Survey on PBIS Assessment is now available in Spanish.

Nothing changes about the way you open the climate survey or send the link to respondents. All of that remains the same. When someone takes the survey, they have the option now to take it in English or Spanish. To switch to the Spanish translation, just select Español from the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner on the survey’s first page. The Spanish version is immediately available. Every climate survey taken within the open window is included in the survey’s summary, regardless of the language selected.

If anyone in your school could use the School Climate Survey in Spanish, take advantage of these new resources to include their voices in your discussions.
