Protecting student data is not just a best practice—it’s a requirement. Schools and districts face increasing pressure to keep sensitive student information safe keeping the log in process simple. That’s why we’re excited to announce multi-factor authentication (MFA) is now available for all our applications.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

MFA is an added layer of protection requiring users to confirm their identity in multiple ways when logging in. MFA combines something you know (your password) with something you have (a secret code from an authentication app). This way, even if a password is stolen, unauthorized users cannot access your account without that second factor. For more information, check out this article on MFA from the The National Cybersecurity Alliance.

Why Multi-Factor Authentication Matters for Schools

More and more, IT teams must meet strict security requirements from federal regulations, state agencies, and local boards. MFA answers this call directly. The process:

  • Meets compliance standards
  • Protects your account from hackers
  • Keeps your data safe

How Multi-Factor Authentication Works for Users

When you enable MFA in your PBISApps account, you’ll only add one step to your log-in process. After you click log in, you’ll get a prompt to enter a secret code from an authenticator app. That’s it. Right now, each user enables MFA for their own account. We know how important it is to have organizationally enforced MFA (required school or districtwide), so it’s the next feature we plan to release soon as part of this rollout.

How to Enable Multi-Factor Authentication for Your PBISApps Login

Before you start, make sure you have a multi-factor authentication app installed. For example, you can use the free Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or Duo Mobile apps. If you already use another app, chances are it will work. Once you have an authenticator app, you're ready to enable MFA for your PBISApps login.

This release is an important step forward in protecting the data entrusted to schools and districts. By enabling MFA, you’re not just checking a box — you take an active role in reducing risk, building community trust, and giving staff and students a safer digital environment.
